Best fishing lure colors

Does color of the fishing lure matter?

The color of a fishing lure can matter, depending on the fish species and the conditions in which you are fishing. Fish have different visual capabilities and preferences, and some fish may be more attracted to certain colors than others.

For example, in clear water, natural colors such as silver, gold, and green can be effective because they mimic the colors of baitfish and other prey. In stained or murky water, brighter colors such as fluorescent orange, chartreuse (chartreuse is yellow green), and hot pink can be more effective because they are more visible to fish.

Some fish species also have specific color preferences. For example, bass are known to be attracted to bright colors like chartreuse and red, while trout are more likely to be caught with natural colors like brown, black, and white.

It's also important to consider the time of day and weather conditions when choosing the color of a fishing lure. For example, during the early morning or late evening, darker colors such as black and purple can be more effective, while during the middle of the day, brighter colors such as white and silver may be more effective.

In general, it's a good idea to have a variety of colors in your tackle box and experiment with different colors to see which one is working best in the specific condition you're fishing.

It's also worth noting that color is not the only factor in the effectiveness of a fishing lure, the shape, size, and action of a lure are also important and can influence a fish's decision to strike.

In many of our painted glitter lures the color patterns are designed intentionally for specific fish. Our bigger crankbaits mimic both natural colors (crawdaddy and bluegill lures) and brighter colors for murkier fishing conditions.

Silver striped crank bait mimics blue gill.

Clear bright pink crank bait for murky waters.

More natural color crank bait for Trout and Northern Pike.
